Callicarpa

Beautyberry 

Family: Verbenaceae

(Callicar-pa: Greek for beautiful fruit)

 

'Profusion'  

(C. bodnieri) A profusion of violet fruit clusters adorn this plant in autumn. Known for its bronze-purple new growth and its dark green foliage. Treat it like a perennial in the north; cut it back hard in early spring. AWARDS: AGM

'Early Amethyst'  

(C. dichotoma) Bright purple berries appear earlier than other varieties providing more enjoyment and better sales. Brought to our attention by the Arnold Arboretum.

Campylotropis

Family: Fabaceae

(Cam-py-lo-tro-pis: meaning bent or curved)

Campylotropis macrocarpa 

A little known leguminous shrub with dense, three inch long purple racemes. The flowers appear in mid to late summer. Native to Korea and China.   Zone 5, 4-5 feet, gr 1

Caryopteris

Bluebeard 

Family: Verbenaceae

(Cary-op-teris: Greek for nut and wing)

 (C. x clandonensis) Easy summer color! Call it bluebeard or Blue Mist Spirea, it makes no difference; they're popular because they're fast to finish, fragrant, and colorful. Excellent impulse purchase plants. Treat it like a butterfly bush and cut it back hard in early spring to improve flowering.

'Dark Knight'

A standout plant with deep blue flowers and dark foliage. FIRST CHOICE AWARD '96

GRAND BLEU

(C. x clandonensis 'Inoveris’ ppaf) An exciting new compact cultivar with extended flowering period, and dark green glossy foliage that contrasts nicely with deep blue flowers. Short internodes result in a dense bloom set. In side by side trials this plant was the clear winner. Mature size is 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 ft. An induced mutation of Heavenly Blue, it grows about half the size. Propagation is restricted. Available June

PINK CHABLISTM   

(C. x clandonensis ‘Durio’ ppaf, cbraf) A new pink flowered caryopteris discovered by Dalton Durio of Louisiana Nursery. This seedling of Blue Mist has masses of clear pink flowers in late summer and autumn. An intense floral display. Adored by butterflies. The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required. Available June. Zone 6, 1-2 ft, gr 0.5,

SUNSHINE BLUE™ 
(C. incana ‘Jason’’ ppaf)  Add some sunshine to your sales. There’s no reason to grow ‘Worcester Gold’ now that Peter Champion of England developed this beauty. This is a stronger growing plant
with larger, brighter sunny yellow foliage. Its rich amethyst blue flowers blow Worcester’s pale blue flowers away! No contest! Propagation prohibited, Patent / Trademark tag required.

'Worcester Gold'

Narrow, soft yellow foliage turns to lime green in later summer. Small pale blue flowers cover this lower mounded plant. It takes a few years in the garden to develop into a nice specimen. Discovered by Claude Palmer of St. John’s Nurseries, Worcester, England. (NO LONGER OFFERED)
