Red Twig Dogwood 

Family: Cornaceae

(Corn-us: Latin meaning horn, describes the toughness of the wood)

ARCTIC FIRE™  

(C. stolinifera ’Farrow’ ppaf) A new compact selection of the ever popular Baileyi’ redstemdogwood. Dark red winter twigs and a compact, nonsuckering habit. Developed by Mike Farrow of Holly Hill Nursery. The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required. Zone 3, 3-4 feet, gr 1.5, 

 

 

ARCTIC SUN™  

(C. sanguinea ‘Cato’ ppaf cbraf) A brightly colored compact dogwood with rich yellow stems tipped with blood red coloration. Developed by Andre van Nijnatten the same breeder who brought us ‘Winter Flame’.  Zone 3, 3-4 feet, gr 1.5, 

 'Argenteo-marginata' NATIVE RANGE

(Cornus sericea . ssp. sericea, C. alba) The very popular variegated form of red twig dogwood. Carmine red stems in winter. Zone 2, 5-8 feet, gr 1.5, Cut Branch, Full Sun Partial Shade

'Baileyi'  

(Cornus sericea . ssp. sericea, C. stolonifera) A strong growing, non-stoloniferous shrub with dark red stems.

Zone 3, 8-10 feet, gr 1, Cut Branch, Full Sun Partial Shade

 'Bud’s Yellow'   

(Cornus sericea . ssp. sericea, C. stolonifera) Bright yellow stems and improved disease resistance 

make it vastly superior to older, greener cultivars. Introduced by Boughen Nurseries. (COPF)

 'Cardinal'   

(Cornus sericea . ssp. sericea, C. stolonifera) The best stem color! Stems change from coral in fall to a deep, 

cherry red in winter. Developed by the Minn. Landscape Arboretum.  Zone 3, 8-10 feet, gr 1, cut,  Full Sun Partial Shade

‘Cream Cracker’
(C. alba ‘Cream Cracker’ PP# 12,830)  A sport mutation of C. alba ‘Gouchaulti’ with excellent leaf spot resistance. The green leaves have a cream colored variegation on the older leaves while the young leaves have a golden yellow margin. Purplish-red stems in winter. Developed by John Pannebakker of the Netherlands. Propagation prohibited, Patent / Trademark tag required. NATIVE: North America.

IVORY HALOâ

‘Hedgerows Gold’
(C. stolonifera) An outstanding new selection with bright golden-yellow variegated foliage. The attractive, irregular gold margin surrounds an emerald green center. In the spring the bright young foliage contrasts wonderfully with its deep red stems. Introduced by the superb plantsman David Mason of Hedgerows Nursery, Oregon. Tolerant of poor drainage. Golden Shadows
(C. alternifolia 'WStackman') An outstanding new variegated selection of Pagoda dogwood with bright golden-yellow variegated foliage shaped like a hosta. A big bold gold margin surrounds the emerald green center. New
growth is often infused with hints of red. In the spring its graced with attractive white flowers. Introduced by the superb plantsman Walter Stackman, Lake Geneva, IL. Best in partial shade. NATIVE: North America. Zone 3, 6-12 feet, gr 1, 
 

  'Midwinter Fire' see ‘Winter Flame’

'Siberica Variegata'
(C. alba) A variegated version of Siberica. Some consider this the best variegated red twig dogwood in 
terms leaf quality and stem color. White edged margins on dark green leaves and bright coral red bark.

'Silver and Gold'  

(Cornus sericea . ssp. sericea) Dick Lightly of Mt. Cuba Center introduced this superb, white and green variegated sport of yellow twig dogwood (C. s. 'Flaviramea). Its variegation is superior to that of Argenteo-marginata.

'Winter Flame'  

(C. sanguinea) Brightly colored winter stems flicker yellow, orange and red to warm the winter tundra. Mass plantings create a bonfire. Great for fresh and dried flower arrangements.
