Rhamnus frangula

Buckthorn

Family: Rhamnaceae

(Rham-nus: ancient Greek name. frangula: pre-Linnaean substantive name)

'Asplenifolia'

Fern Leaf Buckthorn. Texture is the key to quality design and this plant has interesting, narrow, fine textured foliage. Broad upright mounding habit. A specimen plant with wonderful yellow fall color. AWARDS: PSC

Zone 3, 8-10 feet, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade

Dale's Tip: Trim up the lower branched to create a pom pom patio tree. This exposes the attractive bark and it just fun to do.

FINE LINE   ‘Ron Williams’ ppaf

One of the coolest new plants to hit the market in years. This new introduction combines the fantastic, fern-like foliage of ‘Asplenifolia’ with the narrow upright habit of ‘Columnaris’. The landscape applications for this plant are endless. Use it to create narrow hedges or screens, or as an accent specimen or in a patio container. A great choice for the perennial garden, its unique texture and narrow habit make it a great choice for entrance and patio gardens. This cultivar produces very few fruit, of which none have been shown to be viable. This non-invasive cultivar is an excellent, responsible replacement for older weedy varieties. Developed by Ron Williams of Scenic View Nursery in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Zone 2, 5-7 feet

NEW Proven Winners OSO EASY Roses

For many years we’ve been searching for a better rose; a rose that can be grown like any other shrub on the farm – without fungicides. Working with breeders from across the globe, we tested many new plants, but most flunked the test by developing either black spot or mildew. It turns out, however, that a few select plants met the challenge and remained clean after four years without a single fungicide treatment. And thus the Oso Easy roses were born and have emerged as a whole new class of rose. So throw away the sprayer and enjoy these roses because they’re Oso Easy for both the grower and the gardener.
